Liberal Views I Can't Resist -- Sorry if I Offend!

Sorry -- I couldn't resist this one. I think it's interesting because it's backed up by statistics. Whether they are actually true or not, I don't really know, but even with its air of superiority, it reinforces my liberal state of mind. I got it from a comment on a web site called funnyordie.com. Check out the Ron Howard video there with his endorsement of Obama.

"Dear Red States: We've decided we're leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we're taking the other Blue States with us. In case you aren't aware, that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and the entire Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California.

To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cellresearch and the best beaches. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss. We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue; you get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms. Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we're not willing to spend our resources in Bush's Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country's fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation's fresh fruit, 95 percent of America's quality wines, 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT. With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia. We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

Finally, we're taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico.

Peace out, Blue States

PS - You can keep your KKK and shove it straight up your A**!!!"

Thanks for that....Now i'm no McCain supporter and I believe as Ron Paul says that the GOP has "lost its way." There is way too much hostility between Republicans and Democrats and pieces like this just increase that. What's so wrong with having an honest conversation about issues? Also liberals have one major flaw - support of socialistic redistribution.

An honest conversation about issues would be a breath of fresh air, however, which issues would they discuss? It seems their platforms are like night and day. A better option would be to do away with parties and have people run solely on what they're going to do for this country.

Marna, Congrats on (what I believe will be) your (and Obama's) upcoming victory. I can't wait for this election to be over. I am sick of the meaningless rhetoric. It's all pointless anyway. I would have to disagree with you on your assessment about the differences between the two main parties, though. The platforms are different, but the actions are not.

You liberals are really not all that different from the Neo-cons. You both love big government and enjoy venturing into other people's lives, albeit for different reasons. You both take from others based on your own versions of justice. You both spend way more time demonizing each other than talking about resolutions for the real issues (the financial crisis, foreign interventionalism, the disappearing middle class).

A 2003 Ron Paul description of the Neo-cons foretold the Republican's current demise.

Maybe in a future post I will blog about why I think this administration failed and why the next will also fail (for almost the exact reasons, ironically. Hint- It has to do with both sides' insistence to forever increase the size of government and to eliminate the civil liberties of anyone they disagree with.)

Both sides are wrong.

Both sides will continue to fail.

Take a look at that Politopia map in the previous post. Democrats and Republicans aren't that different from each other. (And I also take great pride that the dems and repubs on that map are a hell of a lot closer to Hitler and Stalin than I am.)

Someday people will realize they only have themselves to blame for keeping this same political machinery in place. It is two sides of the same coin.

Go Marna! You may even be a little to the left of me, (acually I ended up "centrist" in Dane's qizmo)but it still made interesting reading.

As for "honest cenversation", DC,I still haven't heard one from either major party candidate's camp and there are only a couple of days to go before the election. The "hostility level" in this particular election has far surpassed any past elections I can remember, and I can remember a lot of them.

I work with advertising every day, and there are certain standards that advertising must meet. If polictical ads were held to the same standards maybe we'd hear something other than the fear mongering, misinformation, statements taken out of context, and just bald-faced lies we've been spoon fed for the past couple of years.

But then, maybe that would be more regulating than you libertarians are willing to endure.

i fear i am a closet libertarian. although i politically identify with the libertarian platform, the pragmatist in me says that i can't vote for someone that has no realistic chance of winning. therefore, i have to vote for the one i believe will be the best(?) choice for the country.

while i don't necessarily agree with it, i take no offense at marna's piece.i think that is because we are friends and i am glad she is comfortable enough to put that out here knowing that some of us will not agree.

i do agree with david that this type of thing tends to increase the hostility between the factions.

it seems we have all grown tired of this interminable process and all the bluster and half baked promises. in the interest of trying to do something constructive i propose that we all come up with some solutions to fix what we believe to be wrong with our system. perhaps dane can start it off with his next blog. if he were king for a day what would he change and why?

Marna you said -

There's a lot of issues that should be discussed where the republicans and democrats are NOT night and day. All i have to do is simply point to Dane's comment - both liberals and the neocons (which have become a majority of republicans) support big government. We could discuss WHY we have the federal reserve? Why do both parties support government intervention? Why are we continuing the failed war on drugs? Why are both parties supporting the global empire where constant military intervention is the norm? Why are we TEN TRILLION DOLLARS in debt and WHAT can we do about it? There is so much to discuss its hard to even find a place to start!

But nevertheless, this two-party 'charade' will continue until people make a serious movement to change it. Luckily, that has finally begun with the Campaign for liberty and through the great exposure Dr. Paul has had the past couple years. Both parties will continue to focus on a few "key" issues without even touching extremely important issues. McCain didn't have the guts (or common sense) to reject the bailout, neither will touch the war on drugs, immigration has almost never come up between these two, both want to continue the US military empire, and neither makes it clear that the constitution is thee most important document.

I would also love to see a blog by Dane about what he would change if he became president. Maybe to make it simpler (the president doesnt necesarily have all the powers people believe he has and Dane as a libertarian would recognize this) he could take for granted that whatever policies he promotes, congress would pass. For example, if he wanted to say end the war on drugs, we could just figure that Congress would pass the proper legislation. In other words, if you 'controlled' government, what specific things would you do?

Thank you all for not blasting me. I agree that Dane should post his "king for a day" messages in future blog posts. I'd like to know more about Libertarians and find out what big government really means. Like I've said before, I'm voting based on a few issues (education, pro-choice, anti-war), although I know there are way more that need to be fixed. I know there are processes and waste and many people getting paid big bucks for doing nothing (I smell a Lean Six Sigma project or two). I'd like to see education funding reform and a collapse of the pharmaceutical empire. With the money we spend on prescription drug advertising, we could fund education for everyone!

Okay, lets talk issues. With the election over today (and nothings going to significantly change because of it), let me indulge in the idea of what I would concentrate on and try get done if I was the one selected today.

I have a lot going on the next day or two, but I will get to posting something soon, probably a series of posts...

I will start with the war in Iraq...

Hey, honey! You know I love you! You are picking up the enthusiasm that I once had when I was in college! Keep it up, girl! We'll see you in a couple of weeks!

I just posted a blog without reading yours. I think that you should read #3 in my blog. You shouldn't be sorry to offend anyone. In my experience, if someone is offended by what is said or written, they should be. It means that something has been triggered which, if they are honest with themselves, will cause them to, at a minimum, reflect on what is said or written.

Obama's victory exacerbates the fact that the Republican party has become the party of the few, the party of the elite, and the party of the religous right (2 or 3 important issues - the rest be damned!). (See #1 in my blog.)
