Bob Dylan

He sings funny, but he is a worth a listen...

I would write more, but Friday would be left better to Budsy and her Friday martini...

(I am just posting to break the one month record.)

Bob Dylan does sing funny, and his voice, as jagged as it was in his youth, has not aged gracefully. He is an acquired taste - kind of like drinking coffee or beer, or smoking cigarettes for the first few times - not very pleasant to start, but almost becoming addictive after awhile.

In many ways, he was way ahead of his time. If you have a chance, take a peek at this video on You Tube. The song is well known, but the video may not be. (You might have to copy and paste the link into your browser.)

He is a prolific songwriter, and has written many songs for others who have made the songs famous. And, as I’ve said previously, many of the topics are timeless, speaking of anti-war, oppression, and the “changing of the guard” – so to speak – with the youth and a youthful movement replacing the old ways of doing things. Love him or hate him, he is not afraid to speak his mind, and almost thrived on the “me against the world” philosophy.

My brother, Daniel, once told me that the best way to drink beer for the first time is to slam the first one - the rest will go down easier. If you 'slam' some old Dylan, the rest will go down easier, and I think it is worth the effort.

“The pump don’t work, ‘cuz the vandals took the handles.”

I've never been a big Bob Dylan fan, but I am a fan of his son, Jakob. Easier on my ears....

Dane -- I think I can only contribute by using the link in the e-mail you sent originally inviting me to add to the blog. Do you want me to do that anytime or do I need to wait to be invited? I don't want to be a blog hog! ;)

I think the Dylan clip Budsy is talking about is from a late 60's documentary.

Two of my faves include "Heart of Mine" from his "Christian" era and "Brownsville Girl", a tale that builds to an incredible crescendo of lyrical wit. (I always want to drive until the wheels "fall off and burn"). It is not about the vocal. It is all about the passion...

I like listening to Dylan when I am suffering from a creative block...

Sometimes I feel guilty that I raised you on the "Dylan" philosophy, but then I think..............nah........... you could have so easily grown up to be a boring Republican if I hadn't....
