Better Dead Than Green

Alright, enough is enough:

Pig Urine

Animals have been around shitting on the ground for hundreds of millions of years. Are pigs really the cause of global warming? Do we really want to use pig urine as a "flavor enhancer"? Or is this "Green" thing just becoming a huge incredible joke?

I think "pig urine" is a code name for Republicans! ha!

I saw a commercial for this car the other day. I thought I was seeing things, but as soon as there's a hydrogen refueling station near me, I'm getting one!

Green's like anything else. As soon as it becomes "vogue" it gets way overworked. Kinda like political correctness.

Hey, remember the Talking Heads song, 'Animals'? Not necessarily on point, but that is what came into my mind when I read the blog.

I think that the whole 'green' thing is another way to make money in our capitalistic society. I think that it is a joke, and the joke is really on us. Our society loves a good trend, and no one wants to be left out of the 'water cooler' talk.

For example, I put the 'energy friendly' bulbs in all of my lights, and I didn't noticed one bit of difference on my electric bill, but I spent a lot more money to purchase the bulbs. And, they burned out faster the the old, glass tungsten filament bulbs.

Hmm, who is the joke on?

Then, I can't even put them in the trash because they are considered hazardous, so I have to get in my fuel inefficient car (25 mpg) and drive them 25 miles one way to the nearest landfill that will take them.

Needless to say, I've stopped using them. However, it is actually going to be difficult to obtain the old tungsten filament bulbs in the future.

And, if you aren't doing the 'trendy' thing by riding on the 'green' bandwagon, you are looked down upon as wasteful and not caring for "mother" earth.

'B' as in B; 'S' as in S, as far as I'm concerned.

Honestly, I do want to do the right thing. As one of my favorite authors (The Black Swan dude) once said, when it comes to the environment, no matter what we may believe, it is only logical to error on the side of caution and be responsible--even if it turns out this whole green thing was overblown.

Having said that, I am trying to find something with a V8 in it for my next car purchase before engines like that become extinct.

I agree, and we do what would be precived as the basics, I guess (recycle, try to buy with the least packaging possible, not using chemicals and fertilizers on our lawn, reuse what we can, etc.).

I guess what I was trying to say is that just because the media or a child's school teacher or Al Gore tells you that you should do X, Y, and Z (use pig urine) to save our planet, make sure that what you are doing, in fact, saves the planet, and doesn't simply cost you more money and line the pockets of a company.

Sometimes, as with my light bulb fiasco, this is completed by 'trial and error'. But, I know of people who simply and blindly believe that just because they do what Oprah tells them (for example), they are "going green" and helping the environment. That may not necessarily be the case.
