Super Tuesday

Here is a blog I check out often:

The American Dream Project

It references a book by Covey (The 7 Effective Habits guy) that I think I will be checking out.

Also, while I am thinking about it, congrats to my college bud Ming and his wife Ginny on the purchase of their new house. I am a frequent reader of Ginny's blog as well:

5eskimos

Now they just need to get a garage built, so Ming has a place to store his Blue Falcon.

had to laugh, the blue falcon has turned into the green minivan, my how times have changed.

sounds like you had a good time in korea, i spent some time in japan in november. it's interesting how the folks in asia seem to look at life. kind of a whole different outlook. i was struck by the size of houses and apartments. people seem to get by with way less than us consuming americans. also spent a couple of hours in a big department store, the home furnishing section was all about saving space and simplicity. they can cram a whole kitchen into about 32 square feet.

must be good to be back, that hop across the pacific can be drag, take care,

ming

I love traveling. It definately gives one perspective.

Although I generally feel that I am not the typical "consumption"-type American, traveling to Asia does always seem to prove me wrong. Jan and I waste way to many resources on crap we just don't need.

Although we all seem to realize that things don't make us happy, we, as Americans, just can't help ourselves. And in a lot of ways, we just become slaves to the things we own. I think we can all live a bit more content by reminding ourselves to spend more of our money on doing things, rather than owning things.

...now if only I could practice what I preach!!

Is the green minivan an F85? Does it go 90? Those are the pertinent questions!

Congrats on buying the house Kevin! From the photo it looks like it's in the middle of the forest. I didn't have a reference for KGB Road -- is that Wasilla or Eagle River or what? Can't wait to come visit! :)

When Jeff and I moved from the Cities to Nisswa, we severly downsized our lifestyle and our belongings. We have completely exited out of the "keeping up with the Jones'" lifestyle that many have. Our 30' x 32' garage has more gross building area than our home.

There are times when I long for a bigger home again. My current kitchen is so small. However, when I had the larger kitchen, I didn't have the time to use it. Now I have the time. Funny how that happens.

But, when I can get the house completely cleaned, top to bottom, in less than 2 hours, I wonder what the hell I want a big house for again. :-)
